In major cities across the country, the Coalition for Tamil Elections Canada announced that Canadian Tamils will vote to test the Vaddukkoddai Resolution.
On December 19, thousands of Canadian Tamils will vote in cities across Canada to test the current political validity of the Vaddukkoaddai Resolution, which was declared in 1976 by all Tamils political parties and in the 1977 general election in Sri Lanka.
In an e-mail to Digital Journal on Monday, Senthan Nada, a Toronto spokesperson for the Coalition to Stop the War in Sri Lanka, said that the Coalition for Tamil Elections Canada was created to conduct surveys, opinions, referendums and elections among the general Tamil Canadian public.
Nada further explained that the elections will take place in major cities across the nation with areas that contain large numbers of Tamils between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. The polling will also be assisted of a “reputable Canadian company.”
All Canadian Tamils who were born in Sri Lanka and their descendants who are over the age of 18 will be eligible to vote. However, one must provide proper documentation to prove their place birth (I.E. birth certificate, passport, et cetera). Polling stations in the Greater Toronto Area will take place in Regent Park, Lansdowne, Mississauga and Etobicoke.
