Memphis -- B.J. Penn displays an impressive win by TKO to retain the lightweight title. The fight was stopped by referee at 2:37 in the fifth round.
B.J. Penn continues to dominate the lightweight division, remaining undefeated at this weight class. Penn, a 155 pound Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter from Hawaii, seriously cut the challenger, Diego Sanchez, with a kick to the head, in the last round, forcing the ring side doctor to call an end to the fight after examining a large gash above his left eye.
A Fox Sports blog describes Penn's mixed martial arts performance as one that "completely outclassed Sanchez".
The semi-final saw former heavy weight champion, Frank Mir quickly submit Cheick Kongo by guillotine choke shortly after a minute in the first round.
Other notable results of the evening were:
Jon Fitch defeating Mike Pierce by unanimous decision.
Kenny Florian defeating Clay Guida by submission in second round.
Paulo Buentello defeating Stefan Struve by majority decision.
