A report on the website of the world's number one golfer Friday evening said he was taking an "indefinite" leave from the game of golf.
Two weeks after a car accident outside is Florida home and after allegations of affairs with as many as ten women,
Tiger Woods is quitting golf, at least for now.
Reports that the world's number one golfer was leaving the game surfaced yesterday in the British tabloid
The Sun, but the official announcement came Friday evening.
The decision did not come lightly,
according to Woods, who said "after much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf."
Woods has transformed the game of golf and is a household name around the world. His career earnings
passed $1 billion this year, making him the highest paid professional athlete in history.
According to the statement, quitting golf will allow Woods to concentrate on being "a better husband, father, and person."
Woods apologized in the statement asking for forgiveness and understanding from fans, business partners and his competitors.
According to
The Sun, wife Elin Nordegren gave Woods an ultimatum to either divorce her or give up golf.
