After 8 years with the publication, 42 year old editor takes severance package to focus on writing books and magazine pieces.
The recent buyout of New York Times magazine editor, as reported by The New York Observer, equates to approximately half-year's salary. Now holding some financial security, this allows Mr. Tough the opportunity to pursue his passion: writing.
"Writing is more exciting and rewarding right now."
Prior to his tenure with the New York Times, he served as an editor of Harper's and was a producer for This American Life.
It was reported in late October 2009 that buyout packages were sent out to every employee at the Times newsroom with the goal of 100 employees opting for severance, otherwise layoffs would occur.
