Famous "Simpsons" billionaire Charles Montgomery Burns received the most write-in votes of the 300 that were casted in last month's New York City Mayoral race.
Charles Montgomery Burns, famous “Simpsons” fictitious billionaire, must being saying “excellent” in Springfield right now as it has been reported by CNN that he received 27 write-in votes of the more than 300 that were casted in last month’s New York City Mayoral race, which saw incumbent Michael Bloomberg win a third term.
A Facebook group called “Monty Burns for Mayor” began in October and currently contains just fewer than 4,000 fans.
Other fictional characters in the write-in casting were Mickey Mouse, Sleeping Beauty, Alfred E. Newman and Victor Von Doom. Infamous characters weren’t the only ones being endorsed, many well-known figures from New York were written in such as former Mayors Rudy Giuliani and Ed Koch, New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, former Governor George Pataki, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Howard Stern, former President Bill Clinton and both candidates of this year’s Congressional race in New York’s 23rd district Dede Scozzafava and Doug Hoffman.
NBC reports that Koch didn’t write his name in but insisted that he was a good mayor, “I was a good mayor and some people remember that.”
In a ‘Simpsons’ episode, Bart and Lisa Simpson found out that Sideshow Bob used dead people to garner votes in his bid for Mayor of Spring, which prompted Bart Simpson to say, “The dead has come back and are voting Republican.” Well the dead were actually being voted in by many New Yorkers such as Nazi leader and Chancellor of Germany Adolf Hitler, former Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt, Rodney Dangerfield and “The Naked Cowby” Robert Burke.
Burns ran on a platform to lower subway fares down to a nickel, notes the Gothamist, “by including cattle and bulk freight transportation through our underground system.” The billionaire who tried to block off the sun to Springfield and who was shot by Maggie Simpson also planned to sell Staten Island to New Jersey.
Nevertheless, according to the Gothamist, if Burns would have won the Mayoral race he would have concluded his victory speech by stating, “In addition to electing me, you may now praise me as your almighty.”
