Laptops that belong to lawyers for the ousted Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich have been stolen on Friday morning but it is unknown if the computers contained important information.
On Friday morning, eight to ten laptops and a safe were stolen that belonged to attorneys representing former Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich, according to the
Chicago Sun Times. The burglars set off an alarm but got away and currently there are no suspects.
The laptops, which are password protected and encrypted, were taken at the office of the attorneys but it has not been confirmed if the computers contained information regarding the federal corruption trial of Blagojevich.
However, the 200-pound safe that was stolen was completely empty, notes
CBS 2.
CNN reports that the United States Attorney’s office in Chicago has not issued a statement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has not gotten involved in the case. Chicago Police spokesperson Veejay Zala has said he cannot make a formal statement because the case is still being investigated.
Defense attorney, Sam Adam, said, “We’re 99 percent sure that nothing sensitive was taken. We don’t believe there is anything missing from the Blagojevich case. We have a server the computer accesses to do it. The server is intact, it’s here, it’s bolted to the floor.”
The defense attorneys are offering a $2,500 reward for the return of the computers.
Blagojevich is charged with attempting to sell or trade the US Illinois Senate seat that was previously held by President Barack Obama.
