New Jersey Nets Win Their First Game

By Michael Bearak     Dec 4, 2009 in Sports
The New Jersey Nets had set a new NBA record to start the 2009 season. At some point they were going to win a game and tonight the Charlotte Bobcats proved the perfect opponent
Tonight in East Rutherford, NJ the Nets were able to get their first win in 19 tries to start the 2009 season. The Charlotte Bobcats led all the way through the first 3 quarters of play were not able to hang on as the Nets finally were able to battle back and get the win. In a season that already saw a coaching change for the Nets with the dismissal of Lawrence Frank when the Nets were 0-17, it still took setting a new NBA mark for futility to get the Nets over the hump with a 97-91 victory.
The Bobcats had a 1 point lead at the end of the first quarter followed by a 4 point lead at half time. Midway through the 2nd half the Bobcats found themselves up by just 1 point at the start of the 4th quarter. It wasn't enough as the Nets pulled away for a 6 point victory at home.
Brook Lopez had 31 points and 14 rebounds, and Courtney Lee scored a career-high 27 points and new head coach Kiki Vandeweghe got his first victory in his first game. This was the Nets first victory since April 13th of this year, which also came against the Charlotte Bobcats.
