Eddie "Umaga" Fatu, who was a wrestler for WWE from 2002-2003, and then again from 2005 until June of 2009, reportedly suffered a heart attack this morning. Reports from around the internet have different opinions on whether he has passed, but WWE.com
has reported that the former wrestler died after spending several hours in grave condition at the hospital.
Fatu's contract with the WWE was terminated in June after he failed his second drug test, and refused to enter a rehabilitation program. He had just returned from participating in the 'Hulkamania' tour which ended late last month. According to reports
he fell asleep last night watching television and when his wife checked on him later in the evening he wasn't breathing and blood was coming out of his nose. He was rushed to the hospital and put on life support where he later died.
In response to his passing, WWE issued the following statement
WWE would like to express its deepest condolences to Mr. Fatu’s family, friends and fans on his tragic passing. Mr. Fatu was under contract with WWE at various time periods and most recently performed under the name "Umaga." Mr. Fatu's contract was terminated on June 11, 2009.
