Oregon is Smelling Roses

By Kristofor Molson     Dec 4, 2009 in Sports
ESPN reports The Civil War decided if Oregon or Oregon State would play against Big Ten Champion Ohio State Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
With the USC Trojans out of the Rose Bowl picture it was a battle for the state of Oregon and a Rose Bowl berth. Oregon and Oregon State met for the 113 time in what is now called the civil war and Thursday night's game was a true battle. The Oregon Ducks lead the Civil War series 56-46-10 and added one more notch on their belt tonight.
Tonight's game was a hard contested battle as both teams fought like their lives depended on it. Both teams came into this contest highly ranked in the top 25 BCS rankings and proved they are ready to go bowling against any opponent they face in there respective bowls.
Oregon State started off the scoring frenzy with running back Jacquizz Rodger rushing for a one yard touchdown, but Oregon answered right back with a one yard touchdown run of their own with running back LaMichael James. The Beavers counter punched with a 40 yard field goal and Oregon retaliated with a Jeremiah Masoli touchdown pass. Each team couldn't stop each others offense until the fourth quarter. Oregon State's coach took a gamble in the fourth quarter on fourth and fifteen, but the pass to James Rodgers was incomplete.
Oregon took the ball and ran out the clock after gambling on a couple fourth down plays of their own. On a fourth and two Masoli rushed six yards and during the same series Ducks running back Kenjon Barner rushed for five yards and the Ducks were able to run out the clock.
Winning quarterback Jeremiah Masoli passed for 201 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 40 yards. Oregon's top running back LaMichael James carried the ball 25 times for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns. Even troubled running back LeGarrette Blount scored a touchdown on 9 carries and 51 yards. With this win the Oregon Ducks will head to their first Rose Bowl appearance since 1995 against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
