After 7 consecutive draws Manchester City ended their dry spell with a resounding 3-0 victory over Arsenal that propels City into the semi finals of the Carling Cup.
With discontent and anxiety rising amongst City faithful after seven draws, three of which came at home after City held a lead sometime during the game, City manager Mark Hughes desperately needed a victory.
Minutes into the game it was apparent the young lineup fielded by Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger was no match for the experience of Manchester City's everyday starters. City came out firing on all cylinders pressing on all sides keeping Arsenal on their heels for much of the first half. However, the first half ended scoreless a fact sure to have worried Mark Hughes and bolstered Wenger's confidence in his youngsters.
City continued their first half success as courtesy of striker Carlos Tevez they took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the second half. Tevez the £25m acquisition from Manchester United was unknown as a prominent goal scorer, but couldn't have looked finer as he jump started City's offense. Arsenal was not going down easy however, they quickly attempted to strike back before City could extend their lead and essentially put victory out of reach for the young Arsenal players.
City wasn't finished however striking again courtesy of the right foot of Shaun Wright-Phillips in an electrifying goal followed up by Vladimir Weiss' first senior goal to ensure a trip to the Carling Cup semi finals.
City earned themselves a trip to the semi finals where they will face their cross town rivals, Manchester United in a game that is sure to excite soccer fans around the globe.
