Marilyn Monroe's life has been filled with controversy and there have even been theories on the true cause of her death but a home video from 50 years ago shows the strawberry blonde smoking dope.
A color silent home movie, starring Marilyn Monroe doing weed, has been found in an attic that was shot some 50 years ago in a private New Jersey manor, according to Reuters. Collector Keya Morgan purchased the reel-to-reel film for $275,000 from the person who originally shot the picture. The person has asked to remain anonymous.
Morgan is a collector of historical autographs, manuscripts and photographs and is currently working on a documentary on the 1962 death of Marilyn Monroe. The copyright of the film’s image will be up for sale on eBay by the end of the week.
Morgan, who had learned of this film during his research, which had been stored in an attic for many decades, said, “This is the late '50s so she is already very famous, but this is a personal side of her we've never seen before. People have never seen her in such a relaxed pose.”
The person who shot the home video later verified that it was indeed marijuana, “I got it (the pot). It was mine. It was just passed around. It was not a party. It was just a get-together. You know, come over and hang out.”
ABC News reports that Morgan and the unnamed person gave Reuters the permission to publish the image.
Daily News notes the unnamed person was a close friend to Monroe.
