Maurice Clemmons was shot this morning in Seattle. Clemmons was the alleged gunman of the Sunday ambush of four Lakewood, Washington police officers at a Parkwood, Washington coffee house.
Sherry Badger of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department told Digital Journal that Clemmons was killed by a Seattle police officer about 2:20 A.M. PST.
"The officer came upon a empty vehicle that was running. He called it in and found that it was listed as stolen. As the officer went to investigate Maurice Clemmons came from around the vehicle with his gun drawn. The officer fired at Clemmons killing him."
Badger said it is assumed that Clemmons was killed instantly.
Badger said that Clemmons had been wounded at the coffee shop on Sunday by one of the slain officers. He had been shot in the abdomen. The gun that Clemmons had on him Tuesday morning was one of the slain officers.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Department other arrests have been made within the past 24 hours in the Clemmons case. A get-away driver and three others that aided Clemmons have been taken into custody. Prosecutors will arraign all in the next 48 hours.
