After much anticipation and buzz the
Seinfeld reunion theme of the season finale of
Curb Your Enthusiasm finally aired Sunday on HBO.
All season the big tease was that all of the original cast members of the Seinfeld show were all coming back together to be in the season finale episode which was to be a Seinfeld reunion show within the
Curb Your Enthusiasm HBO show.
Seinfeld co-creator and star of
Curb Your Enthusiasm Larry David devised a master of plan of producing a
Seinfeld reunion special with the sole purpose to win his ex wife Cheryl back by casting her as George's ex wife.
Everyone from Jerry Seinfeld himself, Julia-Louis Dreyfus, Michael Richards, Jason Alexander, to even Wayne Knight better known as Newman, all came back to make this reunion theme as authentic as can be.
But if I must be complete honest I have to admit I never thought the
Seinfeld show was ever really as great as much of the media portrayed it to be. I never once found myself laughing out loud or even laughing at all at any of the
Seinfeld episodes. Yes they were entertaining, interesting and often times true to real life situations, but hilarious? No.
I remember when
Seinfeld finally came out on DVD several years after the finale they made such a big deal of it, calling it the greatest television show of all time? Really? The greatest? Come on talk about over hype.
If this cast of so called great talents were indeed so talented then why is it that none of them ever went on to successful careers outside of the
Seinfeld show? Each of the cast members individually tried project after project to rekindle that
Seinfeld success but never found anything remotely close.
Then it finally hit me the day I watched my very first
Curb Your Enthusiasm episode on HBO. Larry David the co-creator, writer for
Seinfeld was the true brains behind
Seinfeld. It was evident by watching any random
Curb episode the genius and brilliance that Larry David has.
As opposed to
Seinfeld,
Curb is mostly improvised. Many scenes that we see between Larry and his friends and enemies are spontaneously developed right before our eyes on camera verses being traditionally read 30 times over and over again from a traditional script.
Also because
Curb is on HBO Larry can get away with murder in terms of what he truly whats to say or do. Many of the episodes, actually quite possibly every single episode has much vulgarity, sexual jokes, and taboo crossing subject manner that would make a
Seinfeld fan go straight to confession.
In the finale of
Curb many of the jokes used in the Seinfeld reunion special were the same jokes used in previous episodes of
Curb and yes they seemed much funnier when Larry himself was acting out the hilarious situations verses the Seinfeld cast reenacting them.
Larry David is reported to made $400 million strong off of co-creating
Seinfeld and he deserves every single dollar of it for again he was the true brains behind the success.
If you ask this writer who is more funnier Jerry Seinfeld or Larry David, hands down Larry David would be far superior in my book. Larry is pretty pretty pretty good!
