Boxing promoters Bob Arum and Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions are under extreme pressure to make next year's biggest boxing event a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight next year.
The highly anticipated Pacquiao-Mayweather match will happen next year because boxing fans from around the world want the fight to happen.
Boxing promoters Bob Arum and Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, the two major players in the proposed Pacquiao-Mayweather match, will have a hard time negotiating for the fight to happen if boxing fans will not support the match-up.
It may be recalled that right after the Pacquiao defeated Miguel Cotto last week at the MGM Grand Garden area, boxing fans have shown their support for a Pacquiao-Mayweather match by chanting and calling Mayweather's name as Pacquiao's next opponent.
Matthew Hurley of
Secondsout.com reports: After dismantling Miguel Cotto in customary exciting fashion the buzzing sellout crowd of over 16,000 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas began to chant, “We want Floyd! We want Floyd! We want Floyd!” And it wasn’t simply the delirious Filipino fans that had just witnessed their hero reach yet another plateau in his remarkable career; it was boxing fans in general. Although there are some terrific bouts coming up in the near future, to paraphrase the tagline that was attached to the Clash during their rock and roll heyday, Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao is the only fight that matters.
The Pacquiao-Mayweather match is destined to be next year's biggest boxing event. It is the only fight that matters, as Matthew Hurley aptly said.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is an undefeated American professional boxer. He retired about two years ago but decided to return to boxing when he fought and won over Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez.
Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines is the current WBO Champion and the Ring Magazine's best pound-for-pound boxer. Pacquiao is the first boxer who won seven times in seven different weight divisions.
The popular Filipino boxer has fought and won over the world's best boxers including Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar de la Hoya, Marco Antonio Barrera, Ricky Hatton, Eric Morales, Miguel Cotto, among others.
