The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists will hold an award ceremony on Nov. 24, at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
International Press Freedom Awards is an annual recognition by the CPJ of journalists working in dangerous or repressive circumstances.
This year's ceremony will be hosted by Christiane Amanpour, Chief International Correspondent, CNN.
The awarded journalists are:
Mustafa Haji Abdinur of Somalia. Independent journalist, despite receiving death threats still reporting on the Somali crisis from driven by violence Mogadishu.
Naziha Réjiba of Tunisia. The editor of the independent online news journal, known as the one of the most critical Tunisian journalists, constantly threatened with the government and interrogated by the police.
Eynulla Fatullayev of Azerbaijan. Investigative reporter sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison for publishing an in-depth article about the murder of his editor, Elmar Huseynov .
J.S. Tissainayagam of Sri Lanka. Editor of the news website OutreachSL and a columnist for the English-language Sri Lankan Sunday Times, sentenced to 20 years in prison for two articles written nearly three years earlier.
Anthony Lewis will receive CPJ’s Burton Benjamin Memorial Award for lifetime achievement in recognition of his continued efforts to ensure a free press around the world.
