The FBI is hunting an elderly man who is said to have robbed five banks in California in the last three months. The man has been nicknamed the Geezer Bandit because police estimate him to be in his seventies.
In one of his first heists
witnesses reported they had seen him wearing tubes connected to an oxygen cylinder. The FBI
describe him as, "white, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 3 inches tall, about 150 pounds, with a thin build, gray hair and unshaven. He carries a handgun and has been seen wearing a baseball cap, a blue blazer and several layers of clothing." Beyond this vague and generic description the police have few other clues.
According to
POPFi.com, he "seems to favor those bank locations inside grocery stores like Von’s, robbing two of those."
The
San Diego Union-Tribune website presented a comprehensive
summary of the Geezer Bandit's spree right up to his most recent crime this past Monday evening:
Police say it was the second time the same man is suspected of robbing a La Jolla bank. The first incident occurred on Sept. 12 at the San Diego National Bank on Ivanhoe Avenue.
The other robberies occurred:
— Aug. 28 at US Bank on Mission Gorge Road in Santee.
— Oct. 9 at US Bank on Carmel Mountain Road in San Diego.
— Oct. 26 at Bank of America on Avenida de Acacias in Rancho Santa Fe.
Three rewards, totaling $16,000, have been offered for information leading to the arrest of the 'Geezer Bandit'.
