Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin can expect heightened security when she pays a visit to Fort Bragg on Monday.
Sarah Palin, the controversial former governor from Alaska will be visiting the North Carolina army base on Monday, promoting her new book, “Going Rogue: An American Life”. The book is already a best seller on Amazon.com.
Palin has agreed not to give a speech while visiting the base, amid concerns the event could violate army regulations, should anyone interpret her appearance as a political event.
"There are Army regulations that basically prohibit military reservations from becoming political platforms by politicians." Tom McCollum, a spokesman for Fort Bragg was quoted as saying. “Only one politician can use that platform, and that person does it as our commander in chief."
Palin can expect army security to be unusually tight during her visit. Army officials had barred media from attending the event, in an attempt to prevent grandstanding by opposing factions. However, that decision has since been overturned.
Recent appearances by the former vice presidential hopeful have drawn huge crowds of supporters, with some waiting hours for Palin to autograph copies of her new book. Palin has been a lightening rod of controversy every since she was picked to be John McCain’s running mate for the 2008 presidential election.
