San Francisco Giants' ace starting pitcher and phenom, Tim Lincecum, has won his second straight National League Cy Young Award.
Tim Lincecum, who has been in the league since 2007, has won the National League Cy Young Award for the second straight year, which is the first time a pitcher has repeated since Randy Johnson won it four straight years between 1999-2002, according to the
Associated Press.
Yahoo! Sports notes that after leading the NL with 261 strikeouts and tied the league with four complete games and two shutouts, Linceum received 11 first-place votes, 12 second-place votes and 9 third-place votes tallying to 100 points.
Veteran starting pitcher St. Louis Cardinal’s ace Chris Carpenter finished second-place and fellow teammate Adam Wainwright finished third.
Lincecum had a $650,000 salary but is expected a raise if he files for arbitration before next season but he did not receive a bonus for his win, although both Carpenter and Wainwright each received $100,000.
The Giants’ ace has 40 wins, 6 complete games and 3 shutouts over
three seasons.
USA Today reports that Kansas City Royals’ starting pitcher Zack Greinke received the American League Cy Young Award beating out Seattle Mariners’ Felix Hernandez and Detroit Tigers’ Justin Verlander.
Greinke went 16-8 with an ERA of 2.16 to complete his comeback when he quit baseball three years ago.
