Uh-oh...the kids are soon likely to say, "Leggo my eggos". That's because Kellogg's is predicting a nationwide shortage of its frozen waffles until at least next summer.
They're sweet, they're easy to prepare, and the kids don't just like them, they love them. But Kellogg's says that interruptions in production at two of the four plants where they are made will cause a big, long shortage.
1010WINS Radio and AP report that In September, the company plant in Atlanta was shut down for a period after a storm dumped record amounts of rain on the area. Add to that, several production lines at its largest bakery in Rossville, Texas are closed indefinitely for repairs.
Kellogg's spokeswoman Kris Charles predicts it will take until the middle of 2010 before shelves around the country can be stocked with the waffles at pre-shutdown levels.
Eggos first hit the supermarket shelves in 1960. Since then it has developed a cult following, especially after Kellogg began using its famous slogan, "Leggo my Eggo" in 1972. For years, the waffles have been a staple fojust about anyone looking for a quick and somewhat tasty breakfast.
The video above is of an 1970's ad for Eggo Waffles, just about the time when the company began using its trademark slogan, "leggo my eggo".
