Op-Ed: Are You Fed Up With Stories of Murdered Kids?

By Oscar Brooks     Nov 18, 2009 in Crime
Three year old Shaniya Davis is murdered in North Carolina and her mother is arrested for allegedly selling her for drugs. The person she gave her daughter to was also arrested.
I saw this story on the Nancy Grace show on the HLN network. These stories are way too common in our society. It was reported by HLN that some members of the woman's family were dealing drugs out of her house. How does a mother involved with drugs and some members of her family allegedly distributing drugs out of her house, be allowed to have children in their home? Under no circumstances should children be in that environment. Where was Child Protective Services?
After the mother gives her daughter to this man, the daughter's body ends up in a wooded area, clad only in a tee shirt. It appeared she had been sexually assaulted. America laws need to change. We better wake up and smell the coffee before we lose more of our children. This is another sad story of a child not being protected by the law and an agency that is there to protect them. Shaniya Davis was not protected and should have been. Are we going to sit by and let more of this happen? Or are we going to rise up, raise our voices and do something?
