United States President Barack Obama sat down with CNN's Ed Henry in China on Wednesday to discuss Sarah Palin's new book and the 2012 Presidential elections.
The former Governor of Alaska and 2008 Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin just released her memoir and it is expected that thousands of people will read it but President Obama will most likely not read it, according to the
Associated Press.
“I probably won't, but I don't get a chance to read things other than briefing books very often these days anyway,” said Obama.
Nevertheless, as
CNN notes, he does view Palin as a credible candidate for the 2012 Republican nomination and as a possible opponent, “You know, she obviously has a big constituency in the Republican Party. You know, there a lot of people who are excited by her.”
In one interview with
CBS, the former Governor rated Obama’s performance a 4 out of 10 but Obama completely dismissed it by stating that he and Palin have different political philosophies.
Politico reports Obama does feel that it would take more than one term to carry out his political agenda, however the President may sit out for a reelection bid come 2012 if he feels that his poll numbers are down and if his decisions are not benefitting the American people, “you know, politically, I'm in a tough spot, I'll - I'll feel all right about myself.” The President further added that he makes the decisions based on what’s right for the American people and not based on getting reelected.
“Obviously, if I make those decisions and I think that I'm moving the country on the right direction economically, in terms of our security interests, our foreign policy, I'd like to think that those policies are continued because they're not going to bear fruit just in four years.”
Democratic President Lyndon Baines Johnson was the last Commander-in-Chief not to seek reelection in 1968.
