Blue words have been getting the blue pencil treatment by a vandal at a library in Columbia, Tennessee, according to the librarian.
The same person is believed to have used a blue pen to censor words in 50 to 100 books in the town’s library over the past several months, said Elizabeth Potts, library director at the Maury County Library.
Most of the books are mystery novels, Potts reported, but the vandal also targeted the "9/11 Commission Report," leaving one to wonder why he or she didn’t target Kenneth Starr’s report on President Bill Clinton’s impeachment, which was reportedly nothing more than pure porn for porn’s sake.
Potts emphasized:
“…no one is forced to read the books and "if they don't like them, they should just return them."
She said the library has no money to replace the defaced books so:
… patrons will to have to use their imagination to guess what the blotted out words are.
Library personnel are hopeful the vandal will be caught, but in the meantime they have posted a sign asking people to refrain from crossing out words they deem offensive.
