Freddie Roach admitted that he and Bob Arum want a Pacquiao-Mayweather match early next year but Roach warned boxing fans that it is going to be a boring fight as Mayweather will just keep on running to avoid Pacquiao's speed and power punches
Freddie Roach the trainer of the new WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, says he likes to see a Pacquiao-Mayweather match next year but warned boxing fans that it is going to be a boring fight.
While sending off Manny Pacquiao after the Filipino boxer visited the Wild Card Gym from last Saturday's fight with Miguel Cotto, Roach
said:
Cotto came to fight and Mayweather comes to run. He makes a boring fight, but a lot of people will buy tickets to see him lose. So it would be a huge fight. I agree, but it would be less exciting than other Manny Pacquiao fights.
“It could be like when Cotto started running in the end, and Manny said, “Do you want to run or do you want to fight?’”
If the the Pacquiao-Mayweater fight indeed happens next year, it will deffinitely dwarf all pay-per-view records in boxing TV coverage.history.
Bob Arum though is not convinced that Mayweater really wants to face Pacquiao
“If Mayweather wants to fight Manny, let him call me,”
Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, said in the aftermath of Saturday’s bout. To which Mayweather replied: “Manny Pacquiao doesn’t say anything directly about fighting me because he might just know it’s not a fight he can win.”
Both Freddie Roach and Bob Arum agree that Mayweather will make it difficult for them to agree on contentious issues like fight purse and catch weight in order to justify his reason not to face Pacquiao. They thin Mayweather would rather fight less capable fighters and ensure his undefeated boxing record.
On the other hand, Mayweather started throwing engaging words to the Filipino boxer telling him that he should be his own man and not to depend of his promoter to decide on his fight. He said Pacquiao is the one who does not want to have a fight with him.
