Officials in Germany have charged a 90-year-old man with killing 58 Jewish people. Reports allege the man used to be a member of the SS.
The charges stem from the deaths of members of the Jewish community who were forced labourers.
The labourers were from Hungary and were murdered at the end of the second World War. The deaths occurred in an area to the east of Austria.
The accused man has not been formerly identified by the German court.
The Austrian Jewish association discovered the bodies back in 1995, as the remains of the bodies had all been buried together in a large grave.
The evidence presented to the court alleges the group, who were being made to work as forced labourers.,were taken to the area by the former officer and that other people are thought to have been involved.
The people were first made to hand over anything of value and were then shot.
The accused also faces charges of killing a Jewish man in another incident that happened around the same time.
An Austrian student who was looking into the mass shootings brought the killings to the attention of prosecutors who began to examine the case in 2008.
Evidence has been presented to the court who will soon decide if the the case can proceed.
The area where the bodies were discovered have since been given a plaque, according to the
BBC.
