Floyd Mayweather, Jr. appears to be promoting his fight with Filipino boxing idol Manny Pacquiao. Earlier Mayweather called on Pacquiao to be his own man by not pointing to his promoter Bob Arum and say categorically that he wants to face him next year
There is no doubt that the Pacquiao- Mayweather match will happen early next year as can be gleaned from the way Mayweather talks about the fight less than 24 hours after Pacquiao demolished Miguel Cotto in their 'Firepower' match at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mayweather, aka the 'Moneyman', is definitely salivating a fight with Pacquiao even if he is the underdog as bettors start to bet early in the game. Mayweather doesn't really care much even if he may lose against Pacquiao so long as he makes plenty of money as Manny Pacquiao commented earlier.
Of course the 'Moneyman' may be the happiest man on earth if he beats Pacquiao as he will remain undefeated in his professional boxing career. But boxing fans say that he is no match for the speedy Filipino boxer.
Expect Freddie Roach to say in the next few days that if Mayweather cannot change his natural fighting style in a matter of months and if he remains the same that he is known for his stance, he becomes a tailor-made target of Pacquiao. Unless he dances around Pacquiao throughout the game, he may suffer the same punishment that Pacquiao inflicted on Miguel Cotto.
A Pacquiao-Mayweather match is looming as one of the biggest non-heavyweight fights in modern day boxing history. It’s so big that Station Casinos in Las Vegas are already taking bets on who will win,
mb.com reports.
ESPN reported that Pacquiao opened as an 8-5 favorite but a few $20,000 bets gave Mayweather a little push and made it 7-5 as of Tuesday, still Pacquiao’s way, the report added.
“Their whole promotion was just a Mayweather sweepstakes. They know it and anyone could figure that out. Why? Because my name kept coming up and I didn’t even say anything,” Mayweather said.
Less then 48 hours after Pacquiao demolished Miguel Cotto in Las Vegas, the Internet and print media have been filled with articles and videos about a looming Pacquiao-Mayweather match early next year.
All indications point to a Pacquiao-Mayweather next year. The only possible roadblock would be the fight purse. Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, who was reportedly amenable to a 50:50 purse sharing is now singing a different tune. He says Pacquiao is now the biggest crowd drawer and deserves a bigger share of the fight purse.
In a report by
Philstar.com Arum said not even a 50-50 split would be fair for Pacquiao, regarded as the greatest boxer in the planet today, and one that can generate all the attention whoever he faces, wherever the fight is held.
