Scotland national team dismissed their manager last night after shock defeats to Japan and Wales going 3-0 down in a friendly to the Welsh national team.
George Burley failed to lead Scotland to qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa whilst he was manager of the team, and was given a confidence boost by the Scottish FA before the international friendlies.
But after disastrous results in friendlies against Japan and Wales, Burley lost the confidence of the SFA and was removed from his position last night with only three wins out of 14 under his belt as the Scotland manger.
The search has already begun for a successor to Burley, and the SFA are determined to find a manager to fill the position that can take Scotland to the next level. The new manger though has big boots to fill with Burleys reputation in Scotland a one to match. The SFA Chief Executive has said he is determined to find the best possible replacement.
Scotland may have their sights set on any Scottish League Club manager to fill the space vacated by Burley, which will leave many of the premiership clubs trying to hang on to their managers during the time it takes to fill the space. Graeme Souness a former target for the SFA has said he will not be applying for the job at the present time after being snubbed on more than one occasion, although this may come as a blow to SFA at this point in the search many other manger have expressed interest in post.
Former Hibernian boss John Collins has put himself in the frame and understands the task that would be put upon him by not only the SFA but the fans of the national team ,the role of any manager in the world is to take a group of players and make them better, make them perform at their peak."
. The Kilmarnock manger and Dundee United manager have also not ruled themselves out in the fight for the opening in the National Team.
The SFA has a tough decision to make over the coming months before Scotland next friendly with the Czech Republic, with Walter Smith a coach from the past also in line for a possible return due to the current situation with Rangers at Ibrox.
