As the world prepares to enter the holiday season over the next several weeks, Toronto began its holiday season this weekend with a concluding Santa Claus parade.
Santa Claus parades are a tradition for many people across the western world as families start to welcome the Christmas season. On Sunday, Toronto continued the tradition, one that has occurred every year since 1905. Tens of thousands of Torontonians welcomed Santa Claus from the North Pole.
Schools, marching bands, Toronto’s police force, Canada Post, costumed characters and a variety of other organizations walked along Yonge Street celebrating.
The parade, which began from Bloor Street and Christie Street and went all the way to Yonge Street and Front Street, made people wait in anticipation for hours, as some families camped on the longest street in the world from 9:30 a.m. The Santa Claus parade was slated to begin at 12: 30 p.m. but the floats, musicians and performers only came to Yonge Street and Queen Street at around 2:00 p.m.

The crowds were very eager to get a glimpse of the floats and St. Nicholas himself but fights seized the people as many started to bud in front of others and or become physical. Nevertheless, the anger and rage all went away as the parade began and faces of children lit up as candy was thrown to the crowd by clowns, one of them being Canadian filmmaker Norman Jewison and Police Chief Julian Fantino, and other costumed characters.

The 105th annual Santa Claus parade received $1,100 from over 100 executives and had 1,500 volunteers across the Greater Toronto Area and other parts from Ontario. Such sponsors of the event include Pizza Pizza, Lego, Disney Channel, Yahoo!, Metro and others.
