The holiday season is generally a big spectacle and is created by all cities, towns or villages across the western world. In 2009, the City of Toronto began the holiday season with Illuminite at Yonge-Dundas Square.
On Saturday, the City of Toronto put on a show at Yonge-Dundas Square to begin the 2009 Christmas season called Illuminite. There will be several events between now and Christmas day such as the Santa Claus parade on Sunday, Kidz Fest, the Cavalcade of Lights and many others.
The Illuminite began with a group jumping up and down on a trampoline to the “Kill Bill” theme song and “The Pirate of the Caribbean” theme song. As the two men were jumping and doing spins in the air, fire was shooting from the ground into the sky.
After the duo’s performance there was a singing presentation by Sarah Westbrook with her own repertoire and Christmas songs such as "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.” She further discussed how life begins with a dream and that she told her mother when she was three-years-old that she wanted to become a singer.

With a 15-minute intermission, a group called “Cirque Orange” put on a drumming displace with some pyrotechnics by using a saw on their garbage cans and smoke in the background. The crowd was generally into the rhythm and beat of the music.

The grand finale was a grand spectacle for all the aching legs and backs of parents who held their son and or daughter on top of them as fire breathers and flamethrowers took center stage as the giant Christmas tree was lit at 7:30 p.m.

Children were in complete amazement as they watched the half dozen performers dance with 18th century costumes and fire at their fingertips. At the end of the display, the event received a massive applause by thousands of Torontonians who attended the event.
