Sarah Palin may be making the rounds to market her new book, but Portland is not on her agenda. The Portland Oregonian maintains Palin doesn't plan book signing in the Portland area. For some women, that's just fine.
Palin is said to have North Carolina as one of the stops on her book tour. Not everyone there is cheering, however.
One blogger wrote, " Going to cities around the country to promote her book. Yes, she who could not even name a single newspaper she reads regularly, wrote a book. " So Palin's popularity in some areas isn't universal.
Well, that's one opinion from a place where Palin is said to have on her list of hot spots for the tour. Rush Limbaugh has his, stating that the "leftists" made up their minds before they even read the book. A little over a month ago
Rush wrote, " On the Barnes & Noble website, Sarah Palin's book is not set to be released for more than seven weeks but it has shot to #1 at Barnes & Noble. That puts it atop Dan Brown's new book and a book by Mitch Albom. It's #3 on Amazon. And the book is not out for seven weeks! Folks, this is going to drive them nuts."
But now the book
Going Rogue is readying for the shelves, and Palin herself is on the stump.
AOL wrote on October 20 how Sarah Palin was scheduled to appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show to promote her book on November 17, just five days from now. CNN reported today that Palin was pleased with the interview and found Winfrey pleasant and receptive. A brief glimpse of the interview gave viewers an opportunity fo see snippets of the upcoming show.
But while Palin is planning and making the rounds for book promotion, some Oregon readers aren't buying. During an interview with Donna Matthews, a long-time Portland resident, I found out why.
I asked Matthews if she would be buying Palin's book,
Going Rogue. Matthews responded that she wouldn't, although she might read some of it otherwise. When I asked her why, Matthews said, "The woman has no integrity. I can't believe some of the things she has said."
Since Palin professes Christian values, I inquired if Matthews considered these issues in her opinion about Palin. Matthews explained that she is a Christian and recognizes Jesus proclamation of himself as the truth. "Palin," Matthews said, "tells too many lies. She is a rabble-rouser and wants people to be afraid and upset." Matthews went on to say that Palin represents the opinion of "that other side" that "doesn't recognize Obama as the people's choice."
Matthews agrees with the Portland Oregonian and doesn't think Palin's book will fare as well in a heavily Democratic state as she will elsewhere.
Matthews has lived in Oregon more than 50 years and considers herself a true Oregonian. If hers is the majority opinion of the women of Oregon, than it would seem reasonable that Palin doesn't have Portland, Oregon scheduled on her tour.
