Boxing legend Mike Tyson allegedly knocked down a photographer to the floor of Los Angeles International Airport at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday after a scuffle. Now both, Tyson and the photographer have made citizen arrests of each other.
LOS ANGELES - Boxer Mike Tyson is being booked at Los Angeles Police department's 77th division this evening following a scuffle between him and a photographer who was filming him at Los Angeles International Airport, LAX.
Sgt. Jim Holcomb of Los Angeles Airport Police told Digital Journal the boxer had arrived from Europe and was at the United Airlines ticket counter while a celebrity journalist was photographing him.
"At 4;30 this afternoon Mr. Tyson arrived from Europe and was headed to Las Vegas passing through LAX and he was at the United Airlines ticket counter at Terminal 7," said Holcomb in an interview.
Tyson was being photographed by a celebrity journalist and something triggered a scuffle, he said.
"A scuffle ensured between the photographer and Mr. Tyson during which time it is alleged Mr. Tyson hit him one time on the head with his hand causing him to fall to the ground and sustain a laceration to his forehead," said Holcomb.
Holcomb said both Tyson and the photographer proceeded to make a citizen's arrest for misdemeanor battery.
Both were then processed by Airport Police and the photographer was taken to a hospital, treated and released.
Tyson was taken to LAPD's 77th Division in south Los Angeles to be booked on the allegation of misdemeanor battery. He will be released tonight, said Holcomb.
The photographer was taken to LAPD's Pacific Division where he will be processed on Tyson's allegation of battery and also released.
Both cases will be taken to court for a resolution of the complaints.
