The world heavyweight boxing division has lost popularity during the last few years due mainly to the absence of exeptional boxers in the likes of Mohammad Ali and Mike Tyson who were big crowd drawers during their prime.
A new heavyweight boxing sensation is making waves in the heavyweight division once dominated by popular boxing champions led by the famous heavyweight boxing champion Mahammad Ali.
David Haye who just took the WBA Heavyweight championship belt from Russian Nikolai Valuev, could bring back the heavyweight division to new heights in popularity to match the good old days of Ali, Foreman, Tyson, Frasier and Holyfield. Those days the heavyweight division had the monopoly of boxing dollars, making millionaires out of Ali and company.
The last few years saw a notable slowdown of the numbers of fights in the heavyweight division mainly because of the absence of a promising heavyweight figure who can resurrect the ailing heavyweight division. David Haye could just be this heavyweight figure.
Richard Shaefer of Golden Boy Promotions who is handling Haye says the de la hoya firm envisions a fight with the popular Klitsckos in Las Vegas or London.
Yahoo news reports:
“I think he could be massive,” Schaefer said. “I think if he comes and fights in the United States against a Klitschko I have no doubt that the total global receipts would probably be like De La Hoya-Mayweather, close to $120 million for one fight.”
“These are staggering numbers. We have been searching for a heavyweight champion and he is. How big he’s ultimately going to become, only the future is going to tell us.”
David Haye is a professional boxer from England. He is the current WBA world heavyweight champion
Aside from being the current WBA heavyweight champion, Haye is a former cruiserweight champion, holding the WBA, WBC, WBO and The Ring magazine cruiserweight titles.
