Forthcoming Plenary Assembly of the European Episcopal Commission for Media, taking place from Nov. 12 to Nov. 15 in the Vatican, will gather together representatives from social media and bishops from all over the world.
The theme of the meeting, during which over hundred participants will be discuss the influence of modern media on a mission of the Catholic Church, is "The Internet culture and Church communications".
The conference is hosted by the Council of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE).
Specific topics include: "The challenge of the Church’s word in the ‘zap’ and ‘click’ era", "Is the Internet changing our religious practices?", "Aspects of digitalized socialisation. New commitments for the young people", "Social Network, Search Agent, Social News and Social encyclopedia" and "Young people and the Internet : the other side of the coin".
As organizers announce, the conference will be attended by Christian Hernandez Gallardo (Facebook), Evan Prodromou (Identica.ca), Christophe Muller (YouTube) and Delphine Ménard (Wikipedia).
The present pope, Benedict XVI, is known as a great believer in the power of the Internet and as an active user of social media. Vatican has even launched the website Pope2you, which helps to connect the pope with an audience through the social media.
