TV's favourite food guru Gordon Ramsay has inked a deal with FOX for a new U.S. version of the international hit MasterChef.
The U.S. version follows a template that has already been a hit in England and Australia. It will feature the fiery food personality as he guides epicurean ingenues to become skilled gourmet chefs. The program is still in development for a North American audience and it is most likely to resemble the Australian version which was so popular it aired six nights a week and garnered huge ratings.
Culinary hopefuls from around the USA will audition for a panel of celebrity judges by creating a unique dish in
order to qualify the participants as semi- finalists. Then the contestants will compete weekly with challenging cooking assignments and team challenges until finally a MasterChef is crowned.
In a way, it is a type of foodie version of FOX's musical mega hit
American Idol.
Nielson rates Ramsay's
Hell's Kitchen as Fox's next highest reality series after
American Idol. According to
thrfeed.com, FOX President of Alternative Programming Mike Darnell said:
"A huge Reality format that works great in other countries plus Gordon Ramsay guarantees success. Gordon is like our CSI."
Ramsay will serve as executive producer as well as host.
