article imageLiberal MLA: Winter Olympics protesters are terrorists

By Andrew Moran.
Liberal Burquitlam MLA Harry Bloy said in the legislature on Monday that people who protest the winter olympics are nothing more than "terrorists" who have limited intellectual capabilities.
Do you think people who are not in favor of the Winter Olympics in Canada are terrorists? Well, Harry Bloy believes they are, according to Victoria News. Bloy’s remarks came as one member of the legislature, Rob Howard, introduced a motion that would welcome the Olympic torch to British Columbia.
Bloy vehemently expressed his patriotism and pride for Canada and the British Columbia region as the Winter Olympics begin in three months, “You know, there was a disappointing factor about the Olympics. It was that 200-odd group of terrorists who came to Victoria from across Canada to interrupt the Games. Anyone who could support this group should be ashamed of themselves.”
The Burnaby-Lougheed MLA further iterated, according to the Burnaby News Leader, “They do not understand, these terrorists, the potential goodwill and economic benefits that come from these Games, because they have a limited intellect and do not understand how the world truly operates
Kathy Corrigan, member of the New Democratic party and a critic of the 2010 Winter Olympics, was completely surprised by Bloy’s comments, “My guess is he probably regrets calling protesters 'terrorists.' I mean, I hope that's not what he thinks protesters are.”
Nevertheless, Bloy doesn’t regret any of his remarks. In an interview on Tuesday, Bloy added further that the protesters are terrorists because they “disrupt, intimidate and terrorize animals and people.” Therefore, he stands by what he said.
Bloy concluded that he disapproves of the “terrorists’” noise and commotion at the children’s choir that caused organizers of the event to change the parade route, which many participants entered a draw just to get there. “And they've gotten there and now their once-in-a-lifetime chance to carry an Olympic torch is taken away from them? I don't believe that that's right at all.”
The 2010 Winter Olympics will begin on February 12 and will conclude on February 28.
