The NYPD and Federal investigators are trying to determine a mysterious powder that was sent in letters to three missions to the United Nations.
All of the letters were delivered between 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. Monday to the Austrian Mission on 3rd Avenue between 39th and 40th Streets; the Uzbekistan Mission on 2nd Avenue at 43rd Street; and the French Mission on East 47th Street.
Authorities said all of the letters were postmarked from Texas.
WABC Eyewitness News from New York City reports that a New York Police Department told the Associated Press that initial tests done Monday night on the powder sent to the Uzbekistan Consulate came back negative for anthrax or any other dangerous substance.
The Health Department will be testing the powder and said they expect to know more soon.
Officials said 15 people at the French Mission were decontaminated as a precaution. There were no injuries reported.
