After his spectacular victory over Nikolai Valuev, the Briton David Haye, the newly crowned WBA heavyweight champion of the world is set to meet John Ruiz, a former 2-time heavyweight world champion in a mandatory title defence bout next year.
The new force in the heavyweight division, David Haye plans to defeat first his mandatory challenger and then, unify titles currently held by the Ukrainian brothers, Vitali Klitschko, the WBC heavyweight title holder and Wladimir Klitschko, the IBF, WBO, and Ring Magazine heavyweight titles holder. The title unification bout is reportedly to take place at Wembley Stadium in London or in the United States.
Last Saturday night in Nuremberg, Germany, David Haye skilfully outpointed the 7’2” Russian Nikolai Valuev en route to a twelfth-round majority decision to become the World Boxing Association heavyweight champion of the world.
As a former undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world, David Haye, who wobbled Nikolai Valuev with a powerful left uppercut in the final round of their contest, showed not only he has speed and defensive and offensive skills, but also power in his both hands in his new weight class.
David stated that his speed and athleticism helped him to overcome Nikolai Valuev in that fight. “The title means everything to me. From when I was a baby I said I would be the heavyweight champion of the world. People doubt my skills, people know I'm a puncher, a brawler but I've got skills when I have to. It wasn't as smooth as I made out but I did enough to win and that's all I care about,” stated Haye after the fight.
“I am happy to see a new face in the heavyweight division and happy to fight David Haye in England or United States, “stated Ruiz, who scored a seventh-round TKO victory over Adnan Serin on the same fight card in Nuremberg.
“Ruiz is a strong fighter, but I will knock him out,” Haye predicted.
