In the UK supermarket giant Asda has issued a recall notice for its own brand figs after it was found that the fruit was infested with moth larvae. Moth larvae are caterpillars.
The Asda Wholefoods Garland Figs were recalled after a number of customers reported finding what they described as larvae inside them.
The affected figs were the 250g packet size priced at £1.38 and with a best before date of July 31 2010.
Asda were today advising customers who had bought the product to return it to an Asda store for a full refund with no till receipt required. The supermarket had also placed posters up in their store describing the product being recalled and the reason why.
In a statement, Asda said, "Clearly this isn't right. We're sorry this has happened and are busy getting to the bottom of it with our supplier to make sure it will never happen again."
Asda states that no other products are thought to be affected.
