St. Lawrence Market, Toronto's famous landmark, which is reminiscent of a European market in the early 20th century, held its 205th anniversary with food, entertainment and historical information.
On Saturday, Toronto's St. Lawrence Market, which is at the corner of Jarvis Street and Front Street, celebrated its 205th anniversary with shows, music, dance, storytelling and other joyful events but of course majority of the attendees came for the food. Line-ups for certain vendors lasted between half an hour and an hour but once customers received their chosen food; they were completely satisfied. Especially one customer who said, “I come every Saturday before work just for the food.”
There are dozens of vendors in the market for a large variety and quantity of pretty much anything you want such as seafood, meats, bakery, desserts, cheeses and the list goes on. At moments, merchants, such as the mustard store, were yelling out, “Mustard! Get your mustard here!” Customers chuckled.
Other butchers were handing out free samples of freshly cooked meat, while others would put their food on display for all of the Torontonians to see. One Butcher told
Digital Journal that they've been preparing since the early hours of the morning.

Another aspect of the anniversary special was a non-profit organization called The Toronto Dollar, which is a community group that benefits local businesses and communities in the city of Toronto. You exchange your Canadian Dollars for Toronto Dollars and then you can purchase items from any participating store. The Toronto Dollar is the same value of the Canadian Dollar (e.g. $1 CAD = $1 Toronto Dollar). Also, 10 per cent of all purchases go directly to community organizations.

During these special events, a lot of entertainers and small business owners try to grab the attention of local customers by giving them a unique item or a unique show such as one magician who stood across from St. Lawrence Market doing magic tricks.

At the entrance of St. Lawrence Market was information on the history of the market, which provided people the opportunity to learn about the beginning of the building. One lady was telling the story of how the streets of Jarvis, King, Church and Front were officially designated as “Market Block” in 1803.
It shall be interesting to see what the next 205 years will look like.
