President Obama's administration is not a fan of Fox news. But if they want to strengthen their support base, Obama should go there.
I understand that your administration is engaged in a tit-for-tat with Fox News. It isn’t helping your image as a President for all Americans to war with a network, despite their shortcomings. You claim that they aren’t a real news network. But you’ve been on there before http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,352785,00.html when you were a nominee. You were also on O’Reilly as you reached out for the more independent conservative voters.
I see what you’re saying about Fox News. Once your campaign started to take off in the summer of 2008, they really started to focus on the little things that you might be doing wrong. If the Fox Sunday morning shows spoke to your supporters, they went out of their way to cut them off in the middle of questioning, be terse, or even grant a lot of airtime to then-rival Hillary Clinton’s supporters. I remember the election night, when Fox covered your victory as if a funeral were taking place. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that Fox news loved you as a nominee because you brought ratings, but were scared of you as a President because of your so-called liberal agenda. I’m not even sure what your liberal agenda is, since you often butt heads with Pelosi, the most liberal of them all.
But do yourself a favor and go on there for an honest, in-depth interview. See, the Fox News network isn’t all THAT bad. Sure, they have their share of crazies like Glenn Beck, an admitted “opinion guy”, circus clown and entertainer who thinks that having these qualities can cause a serious movement. Seriously, he puts on the fake tears, but we should get back to real America? And he expects the White House to call his red phone to clear up any questions? It’s a real shame for a guy who juuuuust might have some valid points and good questions but accuses you, a man who has white advisors, a white VP and appointed a white lady as Secretary of State, as a person with deep-seeded hatred for white people. I now watch his show to see all the public service announcements in between segments now that all the advertisers have pulled out.
But for every Beck there’s a Neil Cavuto , someone who has suffered many a health tragedy and pushed through it all. Wouldn’t it be neat to be interviewed by a journalist of his stature and tell him how he could benefit from your plan as a cancer and MS survivor?
Or how about Charles Krauthammer? This guy really battles you as a conservative. He’s always got something to say about how your administration handles things. But he’s a social liberal, and he’s one of the most respected journalists and columnists in existence. And remember that Magic Johnson would be nowhere without Larry Bird. Let Krauthammer take you toe-to-toe. You’ll be a better person for it.
Please, Mr. Obama, go on Fox News. Give the so-called conservatives and independents the air you promised when you said that you would be the president for All Americans. Give them the ear you promised when you said you would listen to the opposition and encourage them to work with you. Fox news may not deserve you, but conservative and independent America that voted for you certainly do. And if that’s the channel they watch, that’s the path you should take.
Sincerely,
Paul Bright
