Guns have become the weapon of choice in Toronto Street murders. The third shooting victim in five days was named by police on Wednesday. A total of four people have been shot since Oct. 30, with three fatalities.
TORONTO - The third man gunned down in five days on Toronto's streets has been identified by police as 24-year-old Kevin Phouthonesy.
Phouthonesy was already dead by the time police arrived at the scene of the shooting at 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday. The shooting occurred near Keele Street and Finch Avenue West. He became homicide No. 47 for the year.
Police said three black men were seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting and all were wearing dark clothing.
Phouthonesy's murder came on the heels of the shooting death of Theodoros Tiku, 27, the night before. That shooting took place at Pape Avenue and Danforth in the city's Greek Town area at about 7:50 p.m.
A doctor passing by tried to revive Tiku but failed. Police did not describe any suspects.
On Friday, October 30, at 11:42 p.m., police responded to a call of shots fired at Tom's Sports Bar and Cafe at 1146 Davenport Road.
Two men were laying on the ground with gunshot wounds. Richard Durant, 26, also of Toronto, was taken to hospital but died.
A second victim of that shooting was also taken to hospital from non-life-threatening bullet wounds.
