Functioning as the Hulu.com of children's entertainment, Canada-based Cookie Jar Entertainment launches a new website featuring nostalgic cartoons.
The highly anticipated Jaroo.com launched Tuesday with an impressive display of fifty different TV series and over 500 individual episodes. The Web site offers free, streaming content aimed at children ages 4-12 years old or adults interested in channeling their inner child.
Like Hulu, each episode is spaced out with a few commercial advertising breaks that cannot be skipped. The typical advertisement lasts less than one minute, a small price to pay for the service.
Through Jaroo.com, users are able to stream archived cartoon TV shows featuring such classics as Inspector Gadget, Adventures of Paddington, Madeline, and Strawberry Shortcake. Newer offerings include The Legend of Zelda and Horseland. In addition to cartoons, several live-action offerings are also available including Cake and Dark Oracle.
The site will also be home to international cartoons like Mona the Vampire, a series popular in Canada and the U.K., that has yet to appear stateside.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Internet content suitable for children is growing at an incredible rate.
Recently, Neilson reported that 9.5% of the current Internet population is made up of children ages 11 years old or younger. And with parents weary of sites like YouTube and Hulu for their general adult content, Jaroo.com comes as a pleasant addition to this spectrum.
