Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall arrived in St. John's, Newfoundland Monday afternoon. It's the first time the Duchess has been in Canada in a royal role. Prince Charles has toured Canada 15 times before.
The royal couple arrived at a time when the swine flu is attacking the province. A woman died on Monday in Newfoundland from the virus. Their 12 city tour of Canada has been altered because of health concerns over the virus.
The virus didn't seem to bother the couple as they greeted those who had gathered to welcome them to Canada, shaking hands with those in the crowd.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams are expected to speak at a welcoming ceremony this evening for the royals.
The couple will be in Ontario on Wednesday. They are expected to visit Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The couple will be in Canada for the next 11 days.
Their flight on a chartered military plane has been charged to Canadian taxpayers.
