As people all over the world celebrated Halloween last night, a tragedy broke out for 19 people who were at a Halloween party in Perth.
Watoday.com reports that 19 people have been injured in Perth as they celebrated Halloween last night. They suffered injuries as a balcony collapsed at a home on Bermuda Drive in North Eastern Perth.
When the balcony collapsed at around 8: 30 p.m. yesterday evening about 30 elderly people were standing beneath. An ambulance rushed nineteen guests to hospital where they were treated for broken limbs and spinal injuries.
Alan Rorke, who works as a reporter for ABC, was also on the balcony when it collapsed. He has reported that the balcony didn't completely fall, but ended up on a slope. This was a better outcome than if it had completely fallen as there might have been deaths and more serious injuries.
The other fortunate thing about the event is that people were piled on top of each other so some people didn't fall all of the way. The fact, that people were piled on top of each other meant that injuries recieved were not as bad as they might have been. Apparently there was a lot of screaming going on and people with broken limbs.
The party was just starting when the event took place, this was sad because people should have been enjoying themselves. Instead they were in hospital receiving treatment for injuries, but then again it could have been a lot worse.
People were enjoying their first drink of the night when a sudden loud noise was heard and before people knew it they were on their backs. People were trying to help each other, but there were some people with the broken limbs who couldn't get up. The balcony is known as a timber balcony and was on the second floor of the apartment.
