Typhoon Santi, the latest typhoon that hit the Philippines after the devastation of the recent twin typhoons, claimed 14 lives and caused substantial damage to infrastructure and agriculture of the country
The latest typhoon to hit the Philippines claimed 14 lives as the country struggled to withstand the devastating effect of the twin typhoons that hit the northern part of the country last month.
Unlike the last two powerful rain-filled typhoons that flooded metro manila and the rest of northern Luzon, the latest typhoon came and went faster than 'Ondoy' . The typhoon hit metro manila, stayed for just a few hours and immediate left the Philippine area toward the south china sea.
The fatalities died of drowning and accidents caused by strong wind accompanying the typhoon. There were no reported damage to sea transportation as the weather bureau has warned all sea craft owners of the impending typhoons days before its arrival.
Philstar.com reports:
Santi, the forth storm to hit the Philippine archipelago in a month, slammed into the country's east coast Friday midnight and barreled through the southern Luzon in a few hours before it entered the South China Sea. The typhoon uprooted trees, damaged houses, roads, bridges and caused brownouts in areas including the capital region
.
The typhoon also added to the flooding in some parts of Luzon as the big dams continue to dispense water to keep the dam structure from collapsing due to rising water level.
The continuous discharge of water from the dams keeps some parts of northern Luzon submerged more than a month after the twin typhoons claimed over a thousand deaths and substantial damage to infrastructure and private properties.
