A woman was shot dead and man seriously wounded in a shooting incident at well-known after-hours party house in Surrey, B.C. early Saturday. Cpl. Dale Carr says there were a dozen people inside the house at 4 a.m.
SURREY, B.C. - At least a dozen people were inside a known after-hours party house when a woman was shot dead and a man suffered serious gunshot wounds, police said Saturday.
Cpl. Dale Carr, spokesman for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said in an interview the house in 10200-block of 152 A Street is well-known to police as an after-hours party place where people congregate after bars close.
Police were called to the scene at around 4 a.m. on Saturday. When police arrived they discovered a woman in severe distress from gunshot wounds.
"Upon arriving at scene patrol officers entered a residence and observed an adult female on the floor suffering from apparent gunshot injuries. The female was in severe medical distress," said Carr.
"After a further search of the residence, patrol officers encountered a male also suffering from an apparent gunshot injury along with multiple additional people inside the home," he said.
"BC Ambulance Service attended the scene and proceeded with medical intervention on the female, unfortunately the female died at scene," he said.
The woman is believed to be in her 20s or early 30s.
"The male was treated and transported to a local area trauma hospital where he is being treated for his injury. At this point it is thought that the injury is non life-threatening , however, will require surgery," Carr added.
"There were in excess of a dozen people in the home," said Carr in an interview. "This house is known for hosting after hours parties and after the bars are closed people tend to migrate to this place."
"We are hoping to get inside with a warrant by dinner time and see what we can learn but at this point we know very little about the victim and we have to identify her," he said.
"There are way more questions then there are answers right now," he added.
"It does not appear at this point that the male and female were related to each other, or known to each other - other than the fact that they were at the same place." he said.
" The scene was secured and the Lower Mainland Police Dog Service conducted a search of the area. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has been called in to handle the investigation with the assistance of Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Section," he said.
