USS Ramage accidentally fired into the Polish port city of Gdynia on Oct. 28, at around 10:40 a.m. Nobody suffered any injuries.
According to a spokesman for the Headquarters of Polish Military Police, Marcin Wiacek, quoted by Polish Internet portal Gazeta.pl,
the ship fell three shots from an M240 machine gun, which is a unit of American equipment.
Head of the Military Prosecutor's Office in Gdynia, Capt. Garrison Dariusz Furmanski, quoted by Polish website rp.pl, said that
the "more likely line of fire" were building the Port of Gdynia, the Baltic mass base, and three merchant vessels in foreign flags.
The investigation, in accordance with agreements between NATO countries, is carried by the American side. Polish prosecutors established that the three shot were accidentally fired "during a routine inspection of equipment."
A spokesman for the Military District Prosecutor's Office in Poznan, Lt. Col. Slawomir Schewe, quoted by Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza, said:
Essential that as a result of this accident, no one was injured, and no damage occurred. In this situation, there is no necessity to conduct further investigation by the Polish authorities.
American destroyer entered the port of Gdynia on Sunday (Oct. 25), after retuning from an international exercise in the Baltic Sea. The ship was moored at the civilian port Quay French.
USS Ramage is a multi-unit designed to combat surface vessels and submarines, is also adapted to the defense. On its board is about 300 sailors. The body has 154 m long and has a top speed of 30 knots (about 56 km / h).
