Police used a Taser to subdue a man who had allegedly walked away after stabbing his brother with a butcher knife. Police said they had use a Taser shot because the man was non-compliant and was advancing on police.
VANCOUVER, B.C. – A man suspected of having stabbed his brother with a large butcher knife was Tasered by Vancouver police on Friday evening.
Police said the 47-year-old was on his way to jail after being taken to hospital for a routine checkup.
Const. Jana McGuinness said the trouble started when two intoxicated brothers living at a residence in the 6500-block of Hum Lu Sum Drive got into a fight.
“It all started when two intoxicated brothers became embroiled in an argument in a residence in the 6500 block of Hum Lu Sum Drive in Vancouver around 5:20 this evening,” McGuinness said.
“Police were called by a third person in the home, after one of the men picked up a knife and stabbed the other in the shoulder. Officers arrived moments later to find the one brother suffering from a stab wound to his shoulder, and the second brother gone from the residence,” she said.
“He was found by police a short distance away outside a residence,” McGuinness added.
“Officers confronted the man at gunpoint, but when he refused commands and advanced on the members, he was Tasered once, and taken into custody," she said.
The man is facing charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and assault with a weapon.
The 34-year-old who was stabbed suffered a wound to his shoulder and did not need to go to hospital.
