A unique, retro styled role-playing game fashioned after the classic stylings of Nintendo's Zelda series is releasing in Japan next month. Now it looks like it will hit North America as well.
3D Dot Game Heroes, by From Software, has been garnering some buzz amongst fans of the role-playing game genre. A Playstation 3 exclusive title, the game takes the extremely unconventional route of foregoing realistic high-definition graphics in favor of 3D renderings of classic pixel art normally associated with the gaming experience of the 80's on classic consoles such as the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game is a deliberate throw back to a simpler time in gaming, calling on "old school" conventions firmly established by elder statesmen of the genre like the Legend of Zelda series. Now, thanks to an announcement on the official Sony Playstation Twitter feed, it's been confirmed that the game will be eventually coming to North America. From the Twitter:
No need to import - 3D Dot Game Heroes for PS3 is DEFINITELY coming to NA! Spread the word, more to come.
This is the second Japanese Playstation 3 exclusive to be released by From Software to North American shores. The previous title, another old school RPG called Demon's Souls released earlier this month to much critical acclaim. While there's still no word on an official release date of 3D Dot Game Heroes, it's good news for current generation of RPG gamers, since games in this genre have been less common than in previous generations of consoles. The retro style graphics and sound are also sure to tickle the nostalgic reflex in many gamers.
