A doctor was attacked at the Massachusetts General Office Building in Boston. The suspect, a psychiatric patient, was shot by an off-duty security guard and has been pronounced dead.
Police say a suspect is now dead following the Tuesday afternoon attack at 50 Staniford St., a high-rise building near Massachusetts General Hospital, according to NBC Boston television news.
A psychiatric patient stabbed a doctor and an off-duty security officer interceded to order the suspect to drop the knife. When the suspect did not comply, he shot the suspect, and the suspect was pronounced dead moments ago. The physician is in stable condition.
NBC is reporting that one male and one female were attacked, and the woman appeared bloodied while being removed by stretcher.
It appears that the incident happened at the hospital's psychiatric office.
Security has locked down the building, and have notified employees and patients inside they could not immediately leave.
Nearby streets were also shut down, but have been reopened since police made an arrest.
Crime scene tape has been removed and people are moving about as if nothing happened.
This is the second incident in less than a week inside a building at the hospital, according to the Boston Globe. On Thursday afternoon, "a 40-year-old homeless man allegedly assaulted a 27-year-old female employee inside a hospital restroom."
The doctor is in stable condition.
