Media Giant grabs UAE mobile TV license

Emirates Mobile Television Corporation (EMTC) has been granted this Sunday the UAE's sole mobile TV broadcasting license.
The UAE Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) has granted the country's sole mobile TV broadcasting license to Emirates Mobile Television Corporation (EMTC).
According to Digital Production Middle East, the consortium which consists of industry leaders Etisalat, Du, Abu Dhabi Media Company, Dubai Media Incorporated, Emirates Communications and Techologies Company (a subsidiary of TECOM Investments), has also been granted exclusive rights to provide broadcast mobile TV for five years.
The license, which has an acquisition fee of AED 17m (US$4.6m), is the first of its kind to be issued in the region, will allow at least 13 channels to be provided to subscribers via different mobile phone packages. The service is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of the next year but will be officially signed in November of this year.
